We work with clinicians, people with lived experience, and partners to identify evidence gaps, develop research questions, and build confidence to lead and participate in research.
We focus on:
- Developing research-active clinicians across disciplines
- Supporting co-produced research with people with intellectual disability and families
- Identifying priorities at the hospital-to-community interface
- Embedding evaluation and system learning into everyday practice
- Creating pathways into NIHR and academic opportunities
How we do this:
- Practice-informed research projects and evaluations
- Mentorship and peer support for clinicians new to research
- Collaborative learning events and workshops
- Co-produced priority setting
- Partnerships with universities and NHS research teams
Examples of activity:
- Mixed-methods service evaluations
- Co-developed monitoring and assessment tools
- Qualitative studies with staff, families and people with intellectual disability
- Implementation and workforce development projects
Looking ahead
CANDDID is strengthening its role as a platform for research capacity building to support the national shift from hospital-based to community-based care for people with intellectual disability.
