Welcome to the ARFID educational videos for parents/carers section.

These resources are aimed at Autistic children and young people and those with intellectual disability who have diagnosed or suspected ARFID (Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder). They do not replace medical or therapeutic advice. There are many factors which may underlie selective, avoidant or restrictive eating. If you have concerns please discuss these with your GP.

The ARFID educational videos are split into three categories:

  • What is ARFID? Signs, symptoms, and asking for help.
  • Treatment approaches
  • Advice for parent carers

The full playlist can be watched on the CANDDID YouTube channel.

Advice for parent carers

These videos offer advice and support  for parent carers on how to manage daily situations like meal times and approach ARFID in general.  A feeding tube may be recommended for some children with severe ARFID, based on medical advice. Most children with ARFID don t require this. The video below offers reassurance for parents who have to consider this.
