Welcome to the 2025 Annual Report of the Centre for Autism, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and Intellectual Disability (CANDDID).

Since CANDDID was developed 2018, we have slowly been building a portfolio of collaborative academic activities, and this report highlights how far we have come from our early days.  CANDDID’s vision continues to deliver academic excellence in partnership with those with lived experience, whether this is through research, training, innovation, or education. This report shares our work and collaborations in 2025,  which demonstrates our continued commitment to meeting our strategic aims and objectives.

CANDDID continues to deliver on co-producing and co-delivering  innovative solutions, research, training, and education.  This year, I am particularly proud of the contributions made by people with lived experience in delivering projects as co-researchers, co-trainers, and co-educators.

The report also highlights the range of activities undertaken by CANDDID towards developing a culture of curiosity and partnership working.  We consider CANDDID as a community of like-minded people wanting to make a difference. CANDDID would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of this community of practitioners, researchers, educators, and lived experience experts.

On behalf of CANDDID, I am grateful for their contribution, which has often come from their personal time and commitment. I am also grateful to Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CANDDID’s host organisation) for their unwavering support and encouragement.

Welcome to our annual report of the Centre for Autism, Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and Intellectual Disability (CANDDID).

CANDDID was set up in 2018 to facilitate development of academic activities in this field and to act as a platform for those with lived experience, professionals working in the field, and clinical academics to collaborate on training, education, and research.

Our aim was to establish a centre of academic excellence through collaborative partnerships. Over the past few years, we have been slowly building up a portfolio of activities and have established a number of collaborative links with agencies, organisations, and universities working in this field.

I am pleased to share a snapshot of our work and collaborations from the last year which demonstrate our commitment to meeting our strategic aim and objectives. The report highlights some of the innovative and collaborative approaches that CANDDID have taken in developing a culture of research, evaluation, education and training.

CANDDID would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of a number of people, including those with lived experience, over the years. I am, on behalf of CANDDID, grateful for their contribution, which has often come from their personal time and commitment. I am also thankful to Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CANDDID’s host organisation) for their unwavering support and encouragement.

Do join us in our journey.
